On September 24, 1901, the monument to Manuel Pino was inaugurated. Manuel Pino is remembered for his courageous act of patriotism when, in 1879, after Chile declared war on Peru, he chose to enlist as a private soldier instead of accepting a high-ranking position as a war auditor. His decision to join the defense battalion as a volunteer reflects his deep commitment to the national cause.
